Climate change Agreements for Berck Limited
Negotiating a Climate Change Agreement (CCA) for Berck Ltd has reduced monthly CCA charges by 80%
Berck Ltd produce a wide range of metal pressed components for a variety of manufacturing sectors in the UK. The site occupies two main factories in West Bromwich. Whilst undertaking a detailed energy survey of the site, E2 identified that Berck would be eligible for a Climate Change Levy (CCL) rebate. A business case was therefore put together by E2 outlining the benefits and costs of entering into a Climate Change Agreement (CCA).
E2 undertook all of the site analysis work and submitted the application to DEFRA via the Confederation of British Metalforming. DEFRA set a stiff energy saving target of 25.6%, which E2 then advised Berck on how to achieve, via implementing a number of energy saving projects including:
- Installing a new compressed air system
- Installing power factor correction equipment
- Installing new press machine optimisation controls
- Installing voltage optimisation units on the factory lighting circuits
- Installing an intelligent factory space heating control system
The result has been a full 80% rebate against the CCL charges, which will now remain in place until 2017.
Andy Jackson – Managing Director said:
"E2 explained the benefits & costs of entering into a climate change agreement in simple terms that we could understand. We asked them to fully manage our agreement and also to work with us to bring our costs down through energy saving projects. E2 sourced interest free finance from the Carbon Trust programme, meaning the whole energy management programme has been cashflow positive for us right from the start"
