Las Iguanas

Refrigeration for Las Iguanas

Retrofitting intelligent refrigeration sensors at Las Iguanas has provided savings of 25%, with a return on investment of just 4-months.

Las Iguanas started out as a single restaurant in Clifton, Bristol. Fresh ingredients, mouth watering regional food and service from passionate people has helped them stand out from the crowd. They now have restaurants in 21 cities and plan to grow further.

As part of an overall energy improvement programme, E2 recommended that Las Iguanas install intelligent refrigeration sensors within all of the walk-in fridges, freezers and service fridges across the restaurant chain. This clever device mimics the thermal properties of food, therefore providing improved temperature stabilisation within the cooled space. This results in a reduction in refrigeration compressor cycles, which provides a useful energy saving.

In order to quantify the level of savings available, a pilot study was undertaken at the recently opened Deansgate Manchester restaurant. An energy data logger was installed onto a walk-in fridge and a trial was undertaken, allowing data to be compared for a 7-day period before & after installation. The data proved savings of 25%, which represented a return on investment of 4 months.

Group Financial Director Kieron Pollock said:

"E2 provide ongoing energy management support to Las Iguanas & know we are focussed on any projects that provide a return on investment of under 12 months. By testing this device first, E2 proved that we will achieve a minimum saving of 25% giving me the confidence to roll it out"
