UK November and December Power Prices rise

Monday 24th October 2016

November and December UK power have both traded up to £70/MWh this morning, on continuing fears over French power supply this winter, which have intensified this week following the French nuclear safety authority ASN’s formal request for five nuclear plants, with a combined capacity of over 6,000 MW, to be shut down within three months for safety tests on steam generating equipment. ASN has also reportedly requested that safety tests be stepped up at six other nuclear plants that are already offline. December UK power has risen 14.5% since the start of this week as a result. There has been a limited impact on prices further forward, however, with April Annual ’17 UK power up just 1.5% since the week-start. November and December UK gas prices are currently discussed at 47.5 and 48.5 p/th respectively, up 3-5% over the same period.
